Drivers ED

Piedmont Community Charter School secondary campus provides a 30 seat classroom and a parking space for the NC Driving School to offer a driver education class on our campus for our students.  Students must be at least 14 ½ years old and enrolled in school. We use the first come, first served method of selecting the student applicants to participate in the classroom. Interested students are given an enrollment form to fill out on the same day. The students are placed in the class in the order the completed forms are returned to the office. The excess students are placed on a waiting list in case students drop out. Students must be present at school to come to the Driver Education class. After class work completion, students will be selected by class first and then by age, with the oldest student in each class selected first to drive. The Driver Education course consists of 30 classroom hours, as well as 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction. Due to our limited number of seats, students are encouraged to, and may register for, classes at other locations in case they do not get into our class, by calling the NC Driving School at 704-922-1960.

Please be reminded that students must be enrolled in school and passing 75% of their classes in order to qualify academically to take the driver education class. If a student does not pass 75% of their classes for the current semester, they will not be issued a Driver’s Eligibility Certificate. Per NC DMV guidelines, permits and licenses will be revoked according to semester grades and only reinstated with the following passing semester grades.

THERE IS A $25.00 FEE FOR THE COURSE WHICH STUDENTS SHOULD BRING WITH THEM ON THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS. PAYMENT CAN BE MADE BY CASH OR CHECK MADE PAYABLE TO GASTON COUNTY SCHOOLS.
