Senior Spotlight: Bianca Moten

Piedmont senior, Bianca Moten, has been accepted into Western Carolina University’s Honors College Program.  She was accepted into the Musical Theatre BFA Program, which only accepts 12 people each year.

Performing in over 30 plays since 2010, Bianca has been able to take long, complex scripts and memorize them on top of a rigorous academic course load.  She’s spent hours practicing to learn the perfect dance steps, voice inflection and expression.  Her favorite past roles include “The Witch” in Into the Woods, “Millie Dillmount” in Thoroughly Modern Millie, “Adelaide” in Guys and Dolls, “Morticia Addams” in The Addams Family, and “Hermia” in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Out of 47 schools from throughout the Charlotte metro area, it is outstanding that Bianca has been chosen as a top six actress for the Blumey Awards for two years in a row.  She will have a spotlighted performance in the televised Blumey Awards at Belk Theater.  In 2017, Bianca won the best costume design at the Blumey Awards with her sister, Kiera.  She has assisted in designing and creating costumes for multiple theater productions.

While excelling in drama, she has also been in National Honor Society maintaining a very high GPA. She shares, “Currently I have a 4.56 GPA.  I applied to 4 schools in the fall, and was accepted to all of them: Western Carolina University, Elon University, Lees McRae College, and William Peace University. I am being offered approximately $3,500 from WCU, which I will be attending. Elon University has offered me approximately $10,000 dollars per year. Lees McRae has offered me more than 3/4 of tuition, room, and board fees.”

Her advice to upcoming freshmen is, “Don’t take yourself too seriously. Yes, grades are helpful, but don’t let them define your worth. You are worth so much more than what words and numbers on paper can express. If you’ve got a crazy dream, chase it. You only get to live once.”

After graduating from Western Carolina University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre and a minor in business, she hopes to get a job either performing on an equity level or working a directorial job within a theater group. Bianca is the portrait of a graduate at Piedmont.
