Senior Spotlight: Hannah Groves

Piedmont Senior, Hannah Groves, has been at Piedmont since Kindergarten. She has completed the nursing aid pathway through the Career and College Promise program at Gaston College and already is certified as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). She passed the NC CNA certification test, which she needs for acceptance to nursing school.

Hannah would like to be a neonatal nurse with a Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN). She has completed four college classes while in high school. In a Fall 2017 nursing assistant class through Gaston College, she was one of 12 students to start the semester. Ultimately only four students passed the class. Hannah made an A. As a volunteer at CaroMont Health in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), she has solidified her goal to be a NICU nurse.

Serving the community is important to Hannah, who served for three years on the Teen Action Council (TAC). There are fourteen members that serve on the council teaching their peers topics that are pivotal to their health. Topics include: abstinence, healthy eating choices, exercising, etc.

While maintaining a rigorous academic course load with a high GPA, Hannah also loves the arts. She has played the flute since 7th grade including all four years of high school. Band has taught her discipline and patience. She loves music and playing in the band. She also enjoyed taking art and found it to be therapeutic in relieving stress. More than 420 students from 50 different schools in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia were nominated for the 37th Winthrop University Invitational Band Clinic. Hannah was accepted into this two and a half day clinic that included ensemble rehearsals with expert clinicians and master classes with Winthrop University faculty.

Hannah’s parting advise to rising freshmen is, “Take as many college classes as you can. It will help prepare you for the future. Career and College Promise classes will give you an early advantage.” She has been accepted to Gardner Webb with $17,000 scholarship, Western Carolina University’s honors college, and Appalachian State University. Hannah also has applied to Clemson and would consider attending there.

Hannah Groves is a well-rounded student, passionate about academics, character and community.  She is the portrait of a Piedmont graduate.
