Senior Spotlight: Jonathan Gilchrist

Piedmont senior, Jonathan Gilchrist, will be attending Mars Hill University with $48,000 scholarship.  He hopes to be a youth pastor.  He likes Mars Hill’s broad offerings on religion to help better prepare him for any situation.  Majoring in religion, he also hopes to minor in music.  He plays the trombone, French horn, drums, guitar, and bass.

He has been a Patriot since 2nd grade.  The teacher he looks back on the most fondly is eighth teacher, Mr. Richards.  Mr. Richards is also the club sponsor for History Club, which is Jonathan’s favorite club.

Jonathan says, “My favorite thing about Piedmont is the diverse amount of opportunities that are offered.  I’ve been able to do everything from band to theater to sports.”

His humble attitude is clear when he shares, “How can anyone be truly prepared to leave home?  It will be a tough emotional transition for many of us.  I encourage everyone to cherish our time at Piedmont, because we are all going to miss each other.”  His parting advise for freshman is to take time to breathe.

In the Spring of 2016, Jonathan won the Scholar Athlete award.  He has played Varsity Soccer and Baseball for all four years of high school.  As a sports fan in general, he also has kept the books for JV and Varsity Basketball.

The biggest take away he has from Piedmont’s drama program has been to learn more about who he is.  Jonathan shares, “In drama, you take a deeper look at your own perceptions.  Everyone goes through similar things. How we react is what defines us?”

He was also a National Honor Society and Bible Club member.  Jonathan Gilchrist is the portrait of a graduate at Piedmont.
