Senior Spotlight: McKenna McMahan

Piedmont senior, McKenna McMahan, was accepted to her first choice school, UNCC in the Pre-Nursing Program.  When asked why she wanted to pursue a career in the medical field she said, “My whole family works at the hospital.  My mom is my big inspiration for being a nurse.  She’s incredible.”

McKenna has attended Piedmont since 5th grade.  She shares, “My math teachers, Mrs. Whitlock and Mrs. Price, have been very encouraging and I strive to have their upbeat outlook.”  Currently, she is involved in student council, which helps plan Homecoming and other activities that promote school spirit.  In October 2016, Piedmont’s High School Student Council hosted a disaster relief drive to help the victims of Hurricane Matthew in Lumberton, NC.  McKenna enjoyed helping with this service project.

She’s taken AP English for the past two years.  McKenna is finishing up her 8th Career and College Promise class this semester.  This program in partnership with Gaston College will have her graduating high school with a year of college credits completed, tuition-free.  As a member of the Patriot Pride Rewards program she received a free t-shirt, a homework pass, and a tardy pass.  She says, “It feels good to be recognized for working hard in school.”

McKenna’s parting advice for the freshman class is, “Pay attention, do your homework, and work really hard your freshman year because it builds the foundation of your GPA.”  Clearly she is known for her warmth as her senior superlative is, “Best Smile.”  She is a portrait of a Piedmont graduate.
