Course Description

This is an introductory course to the Spanish language and its culture.  The skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing as well as the study of culture, history and the interrelations of language are the essential elements taught in the first course of foreign language study.

Course Objectives

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

·         Reproduce sounds, words, sentences and phrases needed for classroom and daily life expressions.

·         Produce learned vocabulary, phrases and sentences when speaking and writing.

·         Develop and recognize language techniques to help communicate in the target language.

Greet and take leave of others in culturally appropriate ways;
Exchange basic information with others;
Express likes, dislikes and daily activities;
Extend and respond to invitations; and
describe family members and family connections.

Evaluation

60% Major  – include tests, projects and quizzes.

40% Minor  – include in-class assignments and homework.
