Senior Spotlight: Morgan Fry

Piedmont senior, Morgan Fry, will attend UNC-Chapel Hill, where he plans to pursue a career as a Cardio-thoracic surgeon.  Having always been interested in the medical field, he loves the thought of connecting with individuals in a way that positively impacts their lives.  As a high school student he completed his EMT certification as part of five college courses, that he took through dual enrollment at Gaston College. While his list of high school accomplishments is long, it is his focus on serving others that might stand out the most. Morgan’s team player mentality has him always willing to drop what he is doing to lend a hand.  He has volunteered at the Special Olympics with National Honor Society and helped faculty organize student events like Patriot Pride Rewards program and the Dodgeball Tournament.

Ms. Walter’s Honors Anatomy and Physiology class was his favorite high school course. Having just finished Biology at Gaston College, her hands on classroom activities were exciting and enriching.  Academically, Morgan won the Highest GPA Award for Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry Honors and consistently was an A Honor Roll student at Piedmont.

Morgan’s advice for freshmen is to get involved as much as possible with high school programs. He says, “Do not leave a door unopened. My character has been really shaped by taking advantage of the opportunities at Piedmont. For example the theater program gave me the opportunity to work to build the set, which is vastly different than visiting nursing homes with Student Council and varies still from being on the basketball or baseball team.  These opportunities were important to me for connecting with people and making friends with people who I might never have met in my classes.”

Look for Morgan when you attend the upcoming Addams Family musical during the last weekend in March. This will be his third time performing in Piedmont’s Blumey competition play.  Chapel Hill is fortunate to be gaining him in August 2020, where he will no doubt quickly plug into campus activities.  Morgan Fry is the portrait of a Piedmont graduate.
