Senior Spotlight: Shamarion Blake

Piedmont senior, Shamarion Blake, will be attending UNC-Charlotte to pursue a degree in Psychology. He is interested in becoming a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist. From serving the community to scoring over 45 goals on the soccer team, Shamarion is a student that works hard to make his dreams happen.

For a year and a half, Shamarion has worked at Altitude Trampoline Park, maintained a high GPA and played sports. His junior and senior year, he was captain of the soccer team. He played varsity basketball all four years of high school. He’s been an All-Conference player, received the Coach’s Award and been an NCHSA Scholar-Athlete all the way through high school.

Shamarion hustles on the court and in the community, where he was on Community Foundation’s Teens Changing Gaston County for the past three years. This is a philanthropic program where teenagers research grant requests for non-profit organizations in Gaston County in order to give away $5,000 to the organization that they feel deserves the money the most. As a National Honor Society member, Shamarion serves the community through a number or projects including volunteering at the Special Olympics and food drives.

Academically, Shamarion has earned a slew of awards including the English III Honors Award, Earth and Environmental Science Honors Award, Creative Writing Award and Perfect Attendance Award. He loves to write noting that creative writing was his favorite class in high school because it helps him reflect on all that is going on around him.

As he considered his high school experience, he shared, “I’m thankful that my mom has pushed me to be my best. I encourage rising freshman, not to be intimidated about what people around you think, because that will lend hand to worrying. Be positive. With positive thinking, you find wisdom, strength and power within yourself.” With his upbeat attitude, you can see why his peers adore him and voted him Homecoming King in 2019.
