Senior Spotlight: Wesley Palmer

Before graduating high school, Wesley Palmer will have already completed 8 college courses tuition free through Gaston College’s Career and College Promise (CCP) program. This accomplishment paired with his high GPA puts him in the running for the GC Promise scholarship. If CCP students take at least five CCP courses (15 hours) and earn at least a 3.25 unweighted GPA in high school, they can receive free tuition at Gaston College, provided they enroll full-time the semester following high school graduation.

Wesley shines as a musician who plays the trumpet, guitar, and piano. Piedmont band teacher, Mr. Cole says, “Wesley is a conscientious and talented young man. He’s a pleasure to teach.” Wesley was chosen for the Winthrop Invitational this year. Piedmont guitar instructor, Mr. White shares, “Wesley is a very talented guitar player. I knew the first semester that I had him, that he was going to be really good if he kept at it. If he gets famous, I am hoping for a guest appearance on his first record.”

While Wesley is undecided on what career he will pursue, he hopes to attend Gaston College first then transfer and graduate from NC State. He has been recognized for Honor Roll all four years of high school. He loves physical education, which he says taught him that being healthy can be fun. Participating in the Junior Heart Board and a Toys for Tots drive, are ways that he served the community. Wesley is the portrait of a Piedmont graduate.
